coached Notre Dame to national title in 1988; 2-time Coach of Year (1977,88); coached six schools in all—Wm. & Mary (3 years), N.C. State (4), Arkansas (7), Minnesota (2), ND (11) and S. Carolina (5+); also coached NFL N.Y. Jets for 13 games (3-10) in 1976.
