Zielona Góra

Zielona Góra (zhelô'nä gOO'rä) [key], Ger. Grünberg, city (1993 est. pop. 115,100), capital (with Gorzów) of Lubuskie prov., W Poland. It is a railroad junction and has lignite mines. Famous for its wines, the city also produces textiles, metals, and foodstuffs. Founded in the 13th cent., Zielona Góra became a prominent town on the trade route from Berlin to Upper Silesia. The city retains a 13th-century church and a 14th-century town hall.
