Suwon

Suwon (sOO'wŭn') [key], city (1995 pop. 2,449,139), capital of Gyeonggi (Kyonggi) prov., NW South Korea. It is an important communications point and a local agricultural research center. Suwon has textile mills and electronics and machinery factories. Suwon has many historic sites, including Suwonsong Fortress (18th cent.).
