Muret

Muret mürāˈ [key], town (1990 pop. 18,604), Haute-Garonne dept., S France. It is an agricultural market and produces foundry products, surgical instruments, and bricks. In 1213, Simon de Montfort, leader of the Albigensian Crusade, defeated the nobles of S France at Muret, thus ending their independence. Muret has a 12th-century church and several 15th- and 16th-century houses.
