Idlib

Idlib ĭdˈlĭb [key], town (1995 est. pop. 100,000), capital of Idlib governorate, NW Syria. It is an important market center for a fertile agricultural region where grains, grapes, olives, sesame, and cotton are grown. Idlib's chief industries are textile manufacture, olive pressing, and fig drying. During the Syrian civil war (2010s) the city and its surrounding area were a rebel stronghold.
