Denizli

Denizli (denēzlē') [key], city (1990 pop. 203,130), capital of Denizli prov., W Turkey. Picturesquely situated, it is an agricultural market center and the gateway for excursions by tourists to the nearby ruins of Laodicea at Lycum and Hierapolis. The city was captured by the Ottoman Turks in 1389. It was badly damaged by earthquakes in 1710 and 1899.
