Dandong

Dandong (dän-dOOng) [key]or Andong (än'tOOng') [key], city (1994 est. pop. 550,900), SE Liaoning prov., China, at the mouth of the Yalu River, opposite Korea. It is a port, connected by rail with Shenyang (Mukden) and with Sinuiju in North Korea. The Supung Dam on the Yalu supplies power for the city's industries. Manufactures include paper, oakleaf silk, chemicals, medicines, machinery, cement, and rubber products. Dandong was opened as a treaty port in 1907. The name sometimes appears as Tan-tung.
