Sheboygan

Sheboygan (shiboi'gun) [key], city (1990 pop. 49,676), seat of Sheboygan co., E Wis., a port of entry on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Sheboygan River; inc. 1853. Plastics, stainless-steel items, orthodontic products, paper goods, enamelware, furniture, and lighting equipment are manufactured. Dairying (cheese) and beer brewing are also important. Permanent settlement began c.1835, and Sheboygan grew into a shipping and industrial center. Lakeland College is there. A park featuring prehistoric Native American burial mounds is S of the city.
