EncyclopediaSevierSevier, river, c.280 mi (450 km) long, formed in SW Utah by the junction of Panguitch Creek and Assay Creek. It flows northward through canyons, then leaves the mountains and flows SW through the Sevier Desert to the salt Sevier Lake. Extensive diversion of the river's water for irrigation has dried up Sevier Lake. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th ed. Copyright © 2007, Columbia University Press. All rights reserved.
