Lorain

Lorain (lôrān') [key], city (1990 pop. 71,245), Lorain co., N Ohio, on Lake Erie at the mouth of the Black River; inc. 1834. Once an important ore-shipping point, Lorain has shipyards, steelworks, automobile-assembly plants, and commercial fisheries. Its port activities, once integral to the city's economy, have declined in bulk and importance over the years.
