East Providence

East Providence, city (2020 pop. 47,139), Providence co., E R.I., on the Providence and Seekonk rivers; inc. as a city 1958. Manufactures include metal goods, insulation, jewelry, plastics, and machinery. The city is also a distribution center for petroleum products, though the industry is smaller than it once was. In recent years the city has redeveloped parts of its waterfront originally devoted to industry as residential and mixed use areas. Originally part of Massachusetts, it was organized as a town of Rhode Island in 1862.
