Crowley

Crowley krouˈlē [key]. <1> City (2020 pop. 11,710), seat of Acadia parish, SW La.; inc. 1888. It is a shipping, milling, and storage center for a large rice-growing area and has a rice experiment station. Oil and natural gas wells are located nearby. <2> City, (2020 pop. 18,070), Tarrant Co., NE Tx; inc. 1951. First settled c. 1848, the town was established when the railroad depot opened there in 1855. It was named for S.H. Crowley, who lead the railroad. Through the 19th century, farming, ranching, and the railroad were the major industries in the area.
