Fisk University

Fisk University, at Nashville, Tenn.; coeducational; founded 1865, opened 1866, and chartered 1867. It became a university in 1967. Fisk, long an outstanding African-American school, is open to all qualified students. It has affiliations with Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt Univ. (engineering and management), and Howard Univ. (pharmacy). The university library is especially noted for its African-American collection, and the Carl Van Vechten Gallery for its Stieglitz Collection of photography.
