Tuan Ch'i-jui

Tuan Ch'i-jui (dwän'chē-jOOē) [key], 18651936, Chinese general and political leader. He studied military science in Germany and held high positions in the army under the Ch'ing dynasty. After the overthrow of the monarchy, Tuan, a consistent supporter of Yüan Shih-kai, served as minister of war (1912–14) and as premier several times between 1912 and 1918. His power group was called the Anhui clique. He was provisional president of China (1924–26).
