EncyclopediaSchwitters, KurtSchwitters, Kurt (koort shvit'urs) [key], 1887–1948, German artist. Influenced by Kandinsky, by Picasso's reliefs, and by Dada constructions, he invented Merz [trash] constructions—arrangements of diverse materials and objects.
