Schuller, Robert Harold

Schuller, Robert Harold, 1926–2015, American Protestant minister and television evangelist, b. Alton, Iowa. Schuller gained attention (1955) when he used a drive-in theater to preach to his newly established Los Angeles–area congregation. His Reformed Church in America congregation was housed (1980–2012) in a multimillion dollar edifice in Garden Grove, Calif., called the Crystal Cathedral (now the Roman Catholic Christ Cathedral). His church's televised “Hour of Power” (1970–2006) was one of the top religious broadcasts in America; he also wrote more than 30 books. Schuller retired as principal pastor in 2010.
