Repplier, Agnes

Repplier, Agnes (rep'lēr) [key], 18581950, American essayist, b. Philadelphia. Her essays, esteemed for their scholarship and wit, are collected in several volumes, including Books and Men (1888), Points of Friction (1920), and To Think of Tea! (1932). She also wrote biographical studies of Jacques Marquette (1929), Marie de l'Incarnation (1931), and Junípero Serra (1933), and a historical study of types of humor, In Pursuit of Laughter (1936).
