Okada, Keisuke

Okada, Keisuke (kā'sookā ōkä'dä) [key], 18621952, Japanese statesman and admiral. He was (1927–29, 1932–34) minister of the navy before serving (1934–36) as premier. He resigned the premiership after the abortive military coup of Feb., 1936, in which he narrowly escaped assassination. At the close of World War II, he was a key figure in pressing for a compromise peace.
