EncyclopediaMarisolMarisol (Marisol Escobar) (măr'isol" āskō'bär) [key], 1930–, Venezuelan-American sculptor, b. Paris. Marisol was first influenced by pre-Columbian sculpture and South American folk art. She is noted for her large, satirical, wooden figure groups; these place her within the pop art movement. Many of her works, such as The Family (1962; Mus. of Modern Art, New York City), contain found objects and plaster or painted replicas of parts of her own body.
