Johnson, Richard W.

Johnson, Richard W., 182797, Union general in the Civil War, b. Livingston co., Ky., grad. West Point, 1849. Before the Civil War he served principally on the frontier. Johnson, made a brigadier general of volunteers in Oct., 1861, served as a division commander in the Armies of the Ohio and the Cumberland. He fought at Shiloh and Murfreesboro and in the Chattanooga and Atlanta campaigns. After his service at the battle of Nashville in Dec., 1864, he was brevetted major general.
