Díaz Mirón, Salvador

Díaz Mirón, Salvador (sälvä&thstrok;ōr' dē'äs mērōn') [key], 18531928, Mexican poet. Díaz Mirón's life abounded with revolutionary plots, political quarrels, duels, and vigorous journalistic debates. His early post-romantic poetry was written under the influence of Byron and Victor Hugo, whereas his later verse was exquisitely polished and less emotional in tone. One of his poems, “A Gloria,” is thought to have influenced José Santos Chocano and Rubén Darío. His collection Lascas [chips from a stone] (1901) marks him as a precursor of modernismo.
