Daun, Leopold Joseph Maria, Graf von

Daun, Leopold Joseph Maria, Graf von (lā'ōpôlt yō'zef märē'ä gräf fun doun) [key], 170566, Austrian field marshal. He gained distinction in the War of the Austrian Succession. Daun later reorganized the Austrian army and gave the officers corps a new sense of professionalism. In the Seven Years War he defeated the Prussian forces at Kolin (1757) and Hochkirch (1758) but was defeated at Torgau (1760) after being severely wounded.
