Coninxloo, Gillis van

Coninxloo or Koninksloo, Gillis van both: gĭlˈĭs vän kōˈnĭngkslō [key], 1544–1607, Flemish landscape painter. His Judgment of Midas (Dresden), Latona (Hermitage, St. Petersburg), and above all the Landscape with Figures (Liechtenstein Gall., Vienna) are fine examples of his art. Coninxloo's paintings, characterized by fantasy, warm tones, and refined realism, were important for the transmission of a Venetian type of landscape to the North.
