EncyclopediaChoiseul, César, comte Du Plessis-Praslin, duc deChoiseul, César, comte Du Plessis-Praslin, duc de (sāzär' kôNt dü plesē-prälăN' dük du shwäzöl') [key], 1598–1675, marshal of France, diplomat, and soldier. He served as ambassador to Turin and commanded the army in Lombardy during the Thirty Years War. In the Fronde he sided with Cardinal Mazarin and defeated the vicomte de Turenne at Rethel (1650).
