Byrhtnoth

Byrhtnoth (birkht'nōth) [key]or Bryhtnoth (brīkht'nōth) [key], d. 991, alderman of the East Saxons. Leader of the English forces in the battle of Maldon, he was killed in the battle and was buried at Ely.
