Büsching, Anton Friedrich

Büsching, Anton Friedrich (än'tōn frē'drikh büsh'ing) [key], 172493, German geographer and educator. He was professor of philosophy in Göttingen, was a Protestant minister, and was director of a Gymnasium in Berlin. He advocated the collection of data similar to the kind of data now used in political and economic geography. The most important of his many works is Neue Erdbeschreibung (10 vol., 1754–92; Vol. XI was written after his death), six volumes of which, describing the geography of Europe, were translated into English as A New System of Geography (1762).
