EncyclopediaArland, MarcelArland, Marcel (märsel' ärlond') [key], 1899–1986, French writer. Arland was editor of the Nouvelle Revue Française (1953–77). Emphasizing a search for salvation that is both ethical and aesthetic, his work includes the novels L'Ordre (1929) and A perdre haleine [out of breath] (1960).
