EncyclopediaMantineaMantinea (măn"tinē'u) [key], city of ancient Greece, in E central Arcadia (now Arkadhía). In the Peloponnesian War a coalition led by Mantinea and Argos and urged on by Athens was defeated (418 B.C.) by Sparta at Mantinea.
