Best Known As:
The star of TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Sarah Michelle Gellar became a star in Joss Whedon's campy TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Gellar played Buffy Summers, a high school student who also happened to have unique, special powers and a calling to battle vampires and other supernatural nasties. The show was a hit from 1997 to 2003 and made stars of Gellar and co-star Alyson Hannigan ("Willow" in the show). Gellar was already an industry veteran before Buffy began: she starter her acting career as a pre-schooler, and by the time she was 18 she had won a daytime Emmy for her work in the soap opera All My Children. She cemented her reputation as a horror queen by appearing in teen horror films, including I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997, with Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Scream 2 (1997, with Neve Campbell). She married actor Freddie Prinze, Jr. in 2002; he was her co-star in the 2002 movie version of the TV cartoon Scooby Doo and its 2004 sequel, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Gellar had another horror hit with the scary 2004 movie The Grudge and its 2006 sequel The Grudge 2, but her career was heading to direct-to-DVD movies. She took time off after having a daughter in 2009, and returned to TV in 2012 as the star and producer of the series Ringers, playing twin sisters.

Extra Credit:

Gellar and Prinze had a daughter, Charlotte Grace Prinze, on 19 September 2009… Gellar took Prinze as her legal last name in 2007, becoming Sarah Michelle Prinze — although she remained widely known as Sarah Michelle Gellar… The series Buffy the Vampire Slayer was based on a 1992 feature film by the same name; Kristy Swanson played Buffy in that film, which also starred Donald Sutherland and Paul “Pee-wee Herman” Reubens.
