Mike Judge is a filmmaker and animator whose hits include the movie
Office Space and the cartoons
Beavis and Butt-head and
King of the Hill. He grew up in New Mexico, went to college in San Diego, and in the late 1980s worked odd jobs while making his own films and cartoons. He got the attention of the cable networks Comedy Central and MTV in the early 1990s, and in between 1993 and 1997 produced (and voiced)
Beavis and Butt-head for MTV (and there was a 1996 animated feature,
Beavis and Butt-head Do America). The show caused some controversy -- fans saw it as ironic commentary on modern stupidity, but critics saw it as just plain stupidity. Nonetheless, it helped Judge make the 1999 feature film
Office Space, which overcame lackluster studio support to become a cult favorite on video. His MTV success also helped him launch
King of the Hill in 1997, a successful animated sitcom that ran thirteen seasons. His other feature films include
Idiocracy (2006, starring Luke Wilson) and
Extract (2009, starring
Jason Bateman).
