Maggie Rodriguez has been an anchor on the CBS morning program The Early Show since 2007. The daughter of Cuban refugees, Rodriguez graduated from the University of Miami in 1991 with a degree in broadcast journalism and Spanish. Fluent in Spanish and English, she spent the next three years in Miami as a reporter for Univision, the Spanish-language network. She moved to KABC-TV in Los Angeles in 1994, working as a reporter and anchor for the next six years (including coverage of the O.J. Simpson trial). From 2000-07 she was back in Miami as an evening news anchor at WFOR. She moved up to the national CBS network in 2007, and her warm and sensible vibe made her an immediate hit on The Early Show, the network's morning extravaganza. She has also filled in for Katie Couric as anchor of The CBS Evening News.
Extra credit: According to The Washington Post, "Rodriguez has never been to Cuba, out of respect for her parents, who fled the island in 1961 after her father was involved in planning for the abortive Bay of Pigs invasion"... She is married and has a daughter, Daniella (b. 2005)... She speaks Italian and French conversationally, according to MediaBistro... She attended American University in Washington, DC before getting her degree at Miami University.
