Born: 10 June 1992
Birthplace: St. Joseph, Michigan
Best known as: The bodacious blonde cover model for the 2012-14 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues
Kate Upton is the curvy blue-eyed blonde who appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated's annual swimsuit issue in 2012 and 2013 and then on the 50th-anniversary issue cover in 2014. Born in Michigan and raised in Florida, Kate Upton took a 21st-century path to stardom: in April of 2011 she posted a YouTube video of herself gleefully doing a dance called "The Dougie" while in the stands at a Los Angeles Clippers game. A year later, the video had over 3 million views and she was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, wearing a bikini on an Australian beach. That success wasn't really overnight: Upton began modeling in Miami at age 15, had modeled for Guess clothing and Victoria's Secret catalogs, and had also been in Sports Illustrated's 2011 swimsuit issue. But her sudden rise and avid online fan base made her a poster girl for the social media generation. Ironically, Kate Upton's platinum-blonde hair and full curves, and the tiny mole above her the right corner of her mouth, have also led to comparisons with old-school icons Jayne Mansfield and Marilyn Monroe. She was named Model of the Year at the 2013 Style Awards in New York City.
