Ellen Page is the petite star of the 2007 comedy
Juno (with
Michael Cera). Raised in Nova Scotia, she began her career on the stage as a child. Canadian audiences got to know her through her television work, including
Pit Pony in 1999, the television movie
Mrs. Ashboro's Cat (2003) and the sci-fi series
ReGenesis (2004). She won international attention for her role in the pedophilia-laced thriller
Hard Candy (2006), and that performance led to a part as Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) in
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006, starring
Hugh Jackman). Her turn in
Juno,
Diablo Cody's tale of a teen handling pregnancy with pluck and ironic humor, made Page a star and won her an Oscar nomination as best actress. She followed
Juno with the 2008 film
Smart People (with
Thomas Haden Church). Page is also known for her many dark indie dramas, including
Marion Bridge (2002),
Mouth to Mouth (2005),
An American Crime (2007) and
The Tracey Fragments (2007).
