YOUNG, Timothy Roberts, a
Representative from Illinois; born in Dover, N.H., November 19,
1811; completed preparatory studies; attended Phillips Exeter
(N.H.) Academy and was graduated from Bowdoin College, Brunswick,
Maine, in 1835; studied law in Dover, N.H., and was admitted to the
bar; moved to Marshall, Ill., in the spring of 1838 and practiced
law for ten years; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first
Congress (March 4, 1849-March 3, 1851); moved to Mattoon, Ill., and
became interested in the manufacture of plug tobacco, in which he
continued for ten years; engaged in agricultural pursuits near
Casey, Clark County, Ill.; died at Oilfield, near Casey, Ill., May
12, 1898; interment in Marshall Cemetery, Marshall, Ill.
