WILLIAMS, Lemuel, a
Representative from Massachusetts; born in Taunton, Mass., June 18,
1747; was graduated from Harvard College in 1765; studied law; was
admitted to the bar and practiced in Bristol and Worcester
Counties, Mass.; town clerk of New Bedford, Mass., 1792-1800;
elected as a Federalist to the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth
Congresses (March 4, 1799-March 3, 1805); member of the State house
of representatives in 1806; resumed the practice of law; died in
Acushnet, Mass., November 8, 1828; interment in Acushnet
Cemetery.
