WILLIAMS, Henry, a
Representative from Massachusetts; born in Taunton, Bristol County,
Mass., November 30, 1805; completed preparatory studies; studied
law; was admitted to the bar in 1829 and commenced practice in
Taunton, Mass.; member of the State house of representatives in
1834; served in the State senate in 1836 and 1837; elected as a
Democrat to the Twenty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1839-March 3,
1841); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1840 to the
Twenty-seventh Congress; was elected to the Twenty-eighth Congress
(March 4, 1843-March 3, 1845); resumed the practice of law; died in
Taunton, Mass., on May 8, 1887; interment in Mount Pleasant
Cemetery.
