VURSELL, Charles Wesley,
(cousin of Carl Bert Albert), a Representative from Illinois; born
in Salem, Marion County, Ill., February 8, 1881; attended the
public schools of Marion County, Ill.; hardware merchant in 1904;
sheriff of Marion County 1910-1914; member of the State house of
representatives 1914-1916; owner and publisher of the Salem
Republican 1916-1948; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth
and to the seven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1943-January 3,
1959); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1958 to the
Eighty-sixth Congress; retired and resided in Salem, Ill., where he
died September 21, 1974; interment in East Lawn Cemetery.
