UPHAM, Jabez

(1764—1811)


UPHAM, Jabez, (brother of George Baxter Upham, and cousin of Charles Wentworth Upham), a Representative from Massachusetts; born in Brookfield, Mass., August 23, 1764; was graduated from Harvard University in 1785; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Sturbridge, Mass.; moved to Claremont, N.H., and thence to Brookfield, Mass., where he continued the practice of law; member of the State house of representatives 1804-1806 and in 1811; elected as a Federalist to the Tenth and Eleventh Congresses, and served from March 4, 1807, until his resignation in 1810; died in Brookfield, Mass., November 8, 1811; interment in New Cemetery, West Brookfield, Mass.
