TULLY, Pleasant Britton, a
Representative from California; born in Henderson County, Tenn., on
March 21, 1829; moved to Arkansas with his father, who settled in
Phillips County in 1838; attended public and private schools; moved
to California in 1853 and engaged in mining; resided in Gilroy,
Calif., after 1857; studied law; was admitted to the bar and
practiced; delegate at large to the State constitutional convention
in 1879; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth Congress (March
4, 1883-March 3, 1885); resumed the practice of law; died in
Gilroy, Santa Clara County, Calif., March 24, 1897; interment in
the Masonic Cemetery.
