TUCKER, Starling, a
Representative from South Carolina; born in Halifax County, N.C.,
in 1770; moved to Mountain Shoals (now Enoree), S.C.; received a
limited education; held several local offices; member of the State
house of representatives; elected as a Republican to the Fifteenth
Congress; reelected to the Sixteenth through Nineteenth Congresses
and reelected as a Jacksonian to the Twentieth and Twenty-first
Congresses (March 4, 1817-March 3, 1831); died in Mountain Shoals
(now Enoree), S.C., January 3, 1834; interment in the private
burial ground on the family estate west of Enoree, S.C.
