1988; M.P.A., Harvard University 1980; admitted to New Jersey bar
1978; assistant to the Governor of New Jersey 1975-1977; counsel to
Vice President Walter Mondale 1978-1980; elected as a Democrat to
the Ninety-eighth and to the six succeeding Congresses (January 3,
1983-January 2, 1997); was not a candidate for reelection to the
United States House of Representatives in 1996, but was elected to
the United States Senate and served from January 3, 1997, to
January 3, 2003; renominated in 2002 but withdrew from the race on
September 30, 2002.
