John STANLY, Congress, NC (1774-1834)

STANLY John , a Representative from North Carolina; born in New Bern, N.C., April 9, 1774; received his early education from private tutors; attended Princeton University; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1799 and practiced; clerk and master in equity; member of the State house of commons in 1798 and 1799; elected as a Federalist to the Seventh Congress (March 4, 1801-March 3, 1803); elected to the Eleventh Congress (March 4, 1809-March 3, 1811); resumed the practice of his profession; again a member of the State house of commons 1812-1815, 1818, 1819, 1823-1825, and 1826; died in New Bern, N.C., August 2, 1834; interment in Episcopal Cemetery.
