J.D., Southern Methodist University School of Law, Dallas, Tex.,
1975; intern, Small Business Administration, Washington, D.C.,
1969-1970; journalist; lawyer, private practice; member of the
Texas state house of representatives, 1981-1982; Bexar County,
Tex., commissioner, 1982-1985; elected as a Republican to the One
Hundredth and to the twelve succeeding Congresses (January 3,
1987-present); chair, Committee on Standards of Official Conduct
(One Hundred Sixth Congress); chair, Committee on the Judiciary
(One Hundred Twelfth Congress).
