SMELT, Dennis, a
Representative from Georgia; born near Savannah, Ga., about 1750;
received a limited schooling; participated in the Revolutionary
War; elected as a Republican to the Ninth Congress to fill the
vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative
Joseph Bryan; reelected to the Tenth and Eleventh Congresses
(September 1, 1806-March 3, 1811); was not a candidate for
reelection to the Twelfth Congress; death date unknown.
