SHOEMAKER, Francis Henry,
a Representative from Minnesota; born on a farm in Flora Township,
Renville County, Minn., April 25, 1889; self-educated with
mother’s assistance; engaged in agricultural pursuits and
worked for many farm and labor organizations; charter member and
organizer of the Minnesota Farmer-Labor Party; assisted in
organizing the Federated Farmer-Labor Party at Chicago in 1924; was
nominated for Vice President of the United States, but declined;
editor and publisher of the People’s Voice, Green Bay, Wis.,
1921-1927, and of the Organized Farmer, Red Wing, Minn., in 1928;
elected as a Farmer-Laborite to the Seventy-third Congress (March
4, 1933-January 3, 1935); was not a candidate for renomination in
1934 to the Seventy-fourth Congress but was an unsuccessful
candidate for nomination for United States Senator; then became an
unsuccessful Independent candidate for reelection to the
Seventy-fourth Congress; unsuccessful for election in 1942 to the
Seventy-eighth Congress; resumed agricultural pursuits near North
Redwood, Minn.; died in Minneapolis, Minn., July 24, 1958;
interment in Zion Cemetery, Flora Township, Renville County,
Minn.
