SHERMAN, Judson W., a
Representative from New York; born in that State in 1808; completed
preparatory studies; held several local offices in Angelica, N.Y.,
where he resided; clerk of Allegany County, N.Y., 1831-1837; deputy
treasurer of the State of New York about 1850; elected as a
Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1857-March 3,
1859); appointed captain and commissary of subsistence of
Volunteers on September 7, 1861, was assigned to duty with
Brigadier General Wood’s brigade, and resigned his commission
November 9, 1861; died at Angelica, Allegany County, N.Y., on
November 12, 1881; interment in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery.
