RUPPE, Philip Edward, a
Representative from Michigan; born in Laurium, Houghton County,
Mich., September 29, 1926; graduated from high school in 1944; Navy
V-12 program, Central Michigan University and University of
Michigan, 1944-1946; graduated from Yale University in 1948; served
in United States Navy during Korean conflict as lieutenant (jg);
director, Houghton National Bank, Commercial National Bank of
L’Anse and R.L. Polk and Co.; elected as a Republican to the
Ninetieth and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3,
1967-January 3, 1979); was not a candidate for reelection in 1978
to the Ninety-sixth Congress; unsuccessful candidate for the United
States Senate in 1982; president of Woodlak Company to 1986;
unsuccessful candidate for election in 1992 to the One Hundred
Third Congress; is a resident of Houghton, Mich.
