QUILLEN, James Henry, a
Representative from Tennessee; born near Kingsport, Tenn., in Scott
County, Va., January 11, 1916; graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High
School, Kingsport, Tenn., 1934; United States Navy, 1942-1946;
newspaper publisher, 1936-1944; business executive; member of the
Tennessee state house of representatives, 1955-1962; delegate to
the Republican National Conventions, 1956, 1964, and 1968; bank
executive; elected as a Republican to the Eighty-eighth and to the
sixteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1963-January 3, 1997);
was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Fifth
Congress in 1996; died on November 2, 2003, in Kingsport, Tenn.;
interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, Tenn.
