PIERSON, Isaac, a
Representative from New Jersey; born in Orange, Essex County, N.J.,
August 15, 1770; attended private schools; was graduated from
Princeton College in 1789; studied medicine; was graduated from the
College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York City, and commenced
practice in Orange, N.J.; elected assessor of Orange April 13,
1807, and served one year; sheriff of Essex County 1807-1809;
president of the Medical Society of New Jersey in 1827; elected as
an Adams candidate to the Twentieth Congress and reelected as an
Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congress (March 4, 1827-March
3, 1831); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1830 to the
Twenty-second Congress; died in Orange, N.J., September 22, 1833;
interment in Old Burying Ground; reinterment in Rosedale Cemetery
in 1840.
