PETERS, Andrew James, a
Representative from Massachusetts; born in West Roxbury, Mass.,
April 3, 1872; attended Hopkinson’s and St. Paul’s
Schools; was graduated from Harvard University in 1895 and from the
Harvard Law School in 1898; was admitted to the bar in 1897 and
commenced practice in Boston, Mass.; member of the State house of
representatives in 1902; served in the State senate in 1904 and
1905; served five years in the Massachusetts Militia; elected as a
Democrat to the Sixtieth and to the three succeeding Congresses and
served from March 4, 1907, until his resignation, effective August
15, 1914; appointed Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and served
from August 17, 1914, to March 15, 1917; mayor of Boston 1918-1922;
resumed the practice of law; president of the Boston Chamber of
Commerce 1926-1928; died in Jamaica Plain, Mass., June 26, 1938;
interment in Forest Hills Cemetery.
